Weeping Willow

Everything was peaceful. People were satisfied as there was abundant food and rituals that unified the clan. The river was a great attribute of the village, providing fish for fishermen, fruitful harvest for farmers, and enjoyment for children. Mothers would do their laundry in the clean, sparkling river that flowed serenely into the great sea. Villagers always payed respect to the river that was near their village. Everything was peaceful until the great prophecy. “Our greatest gift will soon arise and poison us!” The villagers doubted the ominous prediction, and carried on with their lives.

Everything seemed peaceful until the large serpent appeared, lingering around the sacred river. Fear sprouted among villagers, yet they did not muster the courage to destroy the devious snake. The river was now a source of danger, yet they continued to go near it. Despite the serpent’s appearance, the villagers continued to ignore the prophecy. Everything seemed peaceful until the clouds defined the grayness of the sky. Rain started pouring gradually filling the river. Waving back and forth, the river was uneasy. Water spilled and crushed, destructing the village. People were swept away and livestock were instantly set free. To this day the villagers mourn by the river, not as humans, but as weeping willows.
